Maniac Pumpkin Carvers

I’m just discovering these guys, I have no idea. But thanks to the Downtown Dame for getting the 8th of September started off swimmingly. She knows how much I like pumpkins, so she pointed me to the Maniac Pumpkin Carvers.

The Maniac Pumpkin carvers are a couple of friends who have obviously discovered their passion in life, spending the autumn months carving ridiculously badass pumpkins. They’ll carve anything apparently, from portraits to brand logos to characters from movies to just about anything you can imagine. There are some great examples in there of more “3D” pumpkins too, with displays of amazing craftsmanship.

There are zombies, vampires, skeletons, Michael Jackson’s, people I don’t know, ad agencies, and bars. All good.

Bonus points that they’re located in our locale of Brooklyn. If only they had a store, they could totally take advantage of me getting drunk and buying all of their pumpkins (not that they’d have trouble selling them anyways).

They also won serious bonus points with me because of their “how-to” section, which features some videos of Muppets carving pumpkins. And everyone knows how much I LOVE Muppets.

You can follow the Maniacs on Facebook too. Do it.

It’s Pumpkin Time Bitches!!!

You can tell it’s Halloween season when everything Pumpkin flavored/spiced/colored magically appears on store shelves near you.

Quick segue: I will never use the term Fall or Autumn ever again to describe the months of late August, September, October, and even the first part of November. It’s Halloween Season. I am currently working on a proposal to have this officially changed anywhere and everywhere, so if anyone is a lawyer or would like to simply start a petition to rally the troops, I would be forever indebted to you.

Anyways, I am already quite fond of all things pumpkin flavored (like beer), so having this extra pumpkin influence around only enhances the craving. Consider this a warning; this will be the first of several pumpkin-themed posts.

4 Days Until Halloween, Time to Carve a Pumpkin

Monday, October 27th, 2008 by Vincent

I don’t carve no early pumpkins. I like to wait until the last week before Halloween to really get things into full-swing. It serves two purposes: one being that I don’t ruin the holiday and overdose on it weeks before the big day, and two being I don’t have to tolerate a rotting squash in my crib. Tonight was the night.

Welcome to October

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008 by Vincent

Muahaha. It’s finally here again. The greatest month of the year.  The single greatest 31 days of the 365. The month around which all others revolve and die. When all the sacrifices you’ve made will finally pay off.

That was ridiculous. The only effort required to make it to October is avoiding death. But hey, not everyone succeeded! If you did, then give yourself a pat on the back.
