Troll Hunter (quick review)

Monday, June 6th, 2011 by Price

I caught Troll Hunter last weekend while scrolling through my video on demand options, hungover on the couch. It was actually available on VOD prior to being in theaters was pretty enticing as well.

No spoilers here, but watch the trailer and you’ll figure it out: the movie is about a troll hunter. That in itself sold me.

It’s a damn good horror movie that is tremendously fresh and reassuring, in that unique horror movies are still being made. The Norwegian-made film features several well-known comedians who mix the right amount of humor in (just enough to make you laugh before you tense up or nearly shit your pants), adding to a common lighthearted theme that runs common in the movies we’ve been watching lately.

Sure it may remind you of other mockumentary horror movies, or some “OH MY GOD” moments when they finally reveal the monsters you’ve been hearing, but whatever. I haven’t seen a horror movie featuring trolls in forever. Please check it out, you won’t regret it.

Awesome Metal Friday – Kvelertak

Friday, March 4th, 2011 by Price

I don’t need to say much beyond BLACK ‘N ROLL.

If you generally like rock ‘n roll, or even better, like rock ‘n roll, metal, and bands like Satyricon, you’ll really enjoy Kvelertak.

These Norwegian riff masters give it their all. They also take the best bits and pieces from several of their favorite subgenres of metal, which is totally fine by me. You get southern metal, you get bone crushing riffs, you get solos, you get it all.

Their name also means “chokehold” in Norwegian. Badass.

Also really recommended for maximum beer consumption.

Their video for MJØD is pretty rowdy.

varg

An interesting article from a Norweigan website about how he’s adjust to life post prison.

FYI if you want to kill someone and only serve 16 years, move to Norway.

Found via a great writeup on StreetBoners.
