Immortal Live @ Gramercy Theatre (2/19)

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011 by Price

So I already posted about GWAR, but lest us forget, that the night before we went and saw the venerable Immortal at the Gramercy Theatre in Manhattan.

Immortal is one of Vincent and I’s favorite bands by far (just check out the tag search results for Immortal), and this was the 3rd time we got to see them live.

The first time we saw them, we ended up drunk with a SHITLOAD of merch. We thought at the time it might be their only tour we’d ever get to see.

The 2nd time we saw them, I got so drunk that we were unable to make use of the VIP tickets we had, which included a meet-and-great and a poster. Oops. We got cool lanyards though.

This time, we had VIP tickets again! Except all it meant was a free poster (we didn’t pick it up) and early entrance. We are notorious for getting to concerts at the last minute to ensure we can get the most affordable booze in our system.

They ripped it again, as usual. One By One almost made me cry. The were grim. They were frostbitten. They were simply, Immortal.

Their live shows will never get old. Ever.

Things to Look Forward to in 2011

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011 by Price

The year has barely started, and I’m excited for several things/events already.

The obvious ones are later in the year: Halloween 2011, new seasons of True Blood/Dexter/Walking Dead. I thought they all ended with a good bit of up-in-the-air-ness, which leaves me anticipating the upcoming series.

I’m going to be attending a stoner metal festival, RoadBurn in the Netherlands in April. Sunn_O))) is playing, and there’s a Godflesh reunion. Should be brutal.

Vincent and I are planning to attend Oktoberfest 2011. Who knows how evil THAT could turn out to be?

There’s plenty of metal. We’re going to see Immortal again in February. Hopefully I won’t get blackout drunk like last time.

Gonna be a good year.

True Tales Ov Black Metal

So I went to the MoCCA art festival this past Sunday, and bought all kinds of stuff. It was great. I wish it happened more than once per year.

One of several highlights for me was all of the attention I garnered for wearing my Immortal t-shirt. I had the pleasure of having probably 7 or 8 different people throw comments at me like “That shirt is fucking badass” and “You look badass” and “Your ass is BAD” etc. etc. One such admirer pointed me in the direction of a table (AW Illustration I believe …) that had a comic I might be interested in.

I picked up the above comic, “True Tales Ov Black Metal” and had a hilarious several minutes of a laugh. There are references to Mayhem, Immortal (YAY), and Norway in general. I’d scan that whole thing and post it, but that’s probably not nice.

Check out A Warner’s blog at http://aw-illustration.blogspot.com/. There is some black metal artwork there, among other awesome things.

Vincent and I went to see Immortal Tuesday, March 30th. As it was when we last saw them in 2007, it was a complete and utter shitshow. I awoke completely confused on Wednesday morning, knowing nothing except that I had my face melted the night before.

42 Days Until Halloween

countdown_42

42, for 42nd Street in NYC, home to BB King’s Blues Club, which just so happens to host more metal shows than any other NYC venue.

I still have no clue why this is (maybe due to the fact that the sound and lighting system is pretty high tech, and most metal bands are geeks about that shit anyways), but am fine with it. Nowhere else can you catch brunch, a Beatles cover band, and Immortal.

I have seen Immortal, Obituary, the Haunted, and Testament here. Maybe a few others that I can’t remember. It’s always a good time.

Vincent and I will be making our way to BB King’s to see Samael on October 18th. This is quite exciting.
