Italy is Evil Part 3: Evil Shit in Rome

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010 by Price

There is lots of death and murder in Rome’s history, and the artwork throughout the city reflects that. For a region that has gone through several different eras of religious worship, government styles, ways of life, signs of struggle and the dark side permeate modern culture.

Statues and buildings were covered with all sorts of gargoyles and reliefs, too numerous to count. In the Piazza Navona, I found several interesting pieces.

First we have this predator bird guy on Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi:

The Top 10 Most Famous Stolen Body Parts

REAL hard hitting news like this is what we love most. Today Time.com has one of those annoying “click the ‘next’ button to see the next item on the list” style top 10 lists that are designed to make you curse God and give Time.com maximum ad revenue.  It’s that kind of bullshit that makes me want to add the editor of Time.com’s penis to the list of stolen body parts.

In keeping with that tradition, click the link below to see the link

Italy is Evil Part 2: Food and Beverage

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010 by Price

Apologies for the abrupt first Italy posting, but I was a) squeezing in the internets while the woman wasn’t paying attention, and b) was so excited about vampire lizard fast food icons that I just needed to get that one out of my system.

So as you know by now from Vincent’s reflections on Japan, we here at the Devil’s Demons are world travelers supreme. This is just how we roll.

While Vincent opted for the land of raw fish and Japornimation, I chose a country that has a history rife with murder, bloodshed, religious war, and statues. I chose Italy, quite possibly the most brutal country in history.

My trip looked like so:

Day 1 – 3 Rome
Day 4 – 6 Florence
Day 7 – Naples
Day 8 – Naples/Pompeii
Day 9 – Naples
Day 10 – Rome

On our first night, we unintentionally (I love how I always do that) stumbled into an Australian bar that had a dungeon/vampire theme to it, and found a restaurant called Lucifero. I obviously couldn’t resist.

The bar itself felt like a dungeon, dark and depressing. I was home. Here’s some of the interior:

R.I.P. Frank Frazetta

Frank Frazetta passed away today at the age of 82. He was an extremely influential illustrator of comic books and covers, and movie posters. He became synonymous with the muscle-bound gladiator type protecting scantily-clad women. An inspiration for all men I believe.

Zombie Jesus

So it’s taken me almost a year to write about Zombie Jesus, a publication via Champions of Hell.

Champions of Hell is comprised of the writer/artist team of Ira Hunter and Robin Thompson, and they have created a set of characters which includes the aforementioned Zombie Jesus.

At last year’s Fangoria convention, we stumbled upon Champions of Hell’s table and I was immediately drawn in by the bright and violent red covers of the Zombie Jesus comics. I bought all 5 issues available to me at the time.

Who is Zombie Jesus? I think you can figure it out. The books are half story, and half pin-ups, some of which are beyond brutal and sacrilegious, which makes me smile largely.

Zombie Jesus is here to fuck you up basically. The comics provides an interesting twist on the whole Easter thing. I mean, he was murdered. If you were murdered, and were resurrected, what would you do? Revenge of course!
