Great writeup on the original Candyman film

candyman

I completely agree with unkle lancifer on this one. I have never been able to really put into words (or thought, for that matter) what it was about the first Candyman film. But this is done perfectly, and reminds me of why I like Candyman so much.

Awesome horror web comic: Split Lip

Thursday, May 27th, 2010 by Price

split_lip

I stumbled across this fantastic horror web comic, Split Lip.

Written by Sam Costello, drawn by a large roster of artists, Split Lip is a nearly-weekly comic, broken up into several different stories which range from bank robbers getting their just desserts to his latest story, which involves more of an internal horror, where the lines between what’s real and what’s in your head is a theme.

I’m going to spend some more time going through the rest of these comics soon (work only allows me so much free browse time during the day), but I recommend spending some time reading these. It’ll be better than a lot of the other comic garbage out there now on the internet, I promise you that.

Buy some stuff from their store. It’ll be good for you.

ZOMBIE BEEF JERKY!!!

The Japanese are at it again!

I don’t believe I have ever expressed my love of beef jerky here before on the site, but if there’s anything I love as much as horror/evil/blood, it’s beef jerky! So you can imagine the squeal of joy that I unleashed when I happened across this post on pinktentacle.

I’d prefer to get my meat from a nicer looking zombie, but whatever. They’ll improve the formula I am sure.

I didn’t even know! You only have 5 more days left to participate if you haven’t already!

You can visit the Zombie Research Society’s site, or become a fan (I hate that term) on Facebook.

There’s also a Facebook page for the month.

Wear your grey ribbons people.

Italy is Evil Part 4: The Duomo in Firenze

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010 by Price

Holy shit. Nothing prepared me for the sadistic and grotesque fresco that covered the ceiling of the Duomo in Firenze (Florence for you uncultured folks). Our first day in Italy, we went into the Duomo but didn’t want to wait in the line to climb up to the top. However, I did catch a glimpse of the grim reaper in the painting, and that was pretty cool:

But until we got to the top and were making our way out, I was clueless as to the subject matter of the church’s centerpiece. At this point, I was doing the whole “yeah yeah another old church and some awesome art I get it” so I wasn’t expecting anything to particularly peak my senses. So to say I was pleasantly surprised would be a gross understatement.

Nollywood

nollywood

I was never made aware of existence of “Nollywood“, which is a play on Hollywood/Bollywood for Nigeria’s film industry, which is apparently the third such largest industry.

Anyways, photographer Pieter Hugo of South Africa has done some photo studies on Bollywood, which has produced some pretty fucking evil imagery. Check out a summary on BoingBoing.

R.I.P. DIO

Wayyyyy behind I know, but like any metal fan worth his salt, I have to post at least a tiny blurb about the passing of the late great Ronnie James Dio. Regardless of whether or not you cared for his music, he was an icon and champion of heavy metal music, and deserves all the praise and glory he has received. You shall be missed good sir.

Read this AWESOME tribute to Dio on cracked.com. Not lampooned at all believe it or not.

My Boyfriend is a Zombie

OK. If you live in the NYC area, you have no excuse for missing My Boyfriend is a Zombie, showing June 3rd to the 27th at the Theater for the New City.

From the show’s website:

In William Electric Black’s newest musical, two guys are in love with the same girl. One’s a monster and the other’s a wise guy with quick fists. Who’s gonna get to take her to the dance? Sounds like “Oklahoma,” doesn’t it? Fooled ya, it’s “My Boyfriend Is A Zombie.” The year is 1958 and the dance in question is the Springtown High School Halloween Hop. This time, the monster gets the girl.

This just sounds amazing. If nothing else, it’s a great excuse to either dress up as a zombie on a non-Halloween day, or get shitty with friends and be cultured and see some theater instead of a movie.
