The Devil’s Demons meets Metalcakes.

What’s more metal than a writer for the Devil’s Demons making mischief and discovering evil in the city of Chicago? Well, a writer from the Devil’s Demons + METALCAKES exploring Chicago, that’s what!

For a Tuesday night, we made a pretty good showing. Metalcakes got me from my hotel, and like the amazing person she is, came with cupcakes in hand! In honor of MY ginger beard, she prepared a dozen of the Dust-inspired Suicide (by Cupcake):

GODDAMN, that picture does not do it justice. I think I was already so high on deliciousness that I couldn’t focus the camera. Even so, how good does that look? I’ll tell you how good, amazing. They look even better shoved into my face.

We then headed to a well known metal dive bar meets insane burger joint, Kuma’s. Let’s see, let’s give the overview:

  • Heavy metal themed artwork on the walls
  • Heavy metal vinyl decorated throughout
  • A metal-inspired menu
  • Waitresses with a metal attitude, meaning they like to cuss and talk shit about stupid vegetarians

I was in utter heaven (or hell). The music, the smell of burning carcass, the naked chick with blood on her boobs artwork. Since I was too overwhelmed with the surrounding brutality, I never took pictures. But through the magic of the internetwebs, I found some decent shots. Here, the interior and the bar:

We had some drinks (well, I probably had too many, but THAT’S HOW METAL THIS PLACE WAS), and next up was to decide what to eat. Do I go with the name and choose from one of my favorite bands? The Mastodon? The Lair of the Minotaur? The Judas Priest???

I opted for a combination, choosing a band I absolutely love which had the tastiest sounding ingredients. I settled on the High on Fire:

Except I had chicken instead of beef. Whatever. It was a ridiculous “burger” no matter how you spin it. Absolutely enormous, and dripping with goodness. It definitely tasted evil. Pure evil. The waffle fries were pretty brutal as well.

After dinner, we headed to Delilah’s, which is a famous punk/rock n’ roll bar. We played some Mrs. Pac Man, drank more beer, and reveled in the brutality of the evening.

Thank you MetalCakes!
