School of the DeadJune 23rd, 2009 by Price
There is a NY Post article today that talks about a project involving students and teachers at IS 145 in Jackson Heights, Queens. Some of the instructors received a federal grant for media and arts, which they parlayed into an innovative film project which is titled “School of the Dead”, and should be ready for showing this fall.
One might think that the idea of 8th graders creating a horror movie is inherently wrong and fucked up, but apparently it is done with more of an emphasis on the fear, and even the actual escape (rather than the capture), and either way has gotten a load of kids interested in the arts and film making when they otherwise may not have. I give it thumbs-up.
