This list is pretty interesting. While it only includes one true horror entry, Jack Ketchum’s The Girl Next Door (which is also a decent movie), if it’s disturbing, it’s probably worth reading.

I’ve read a few of these, and thankfully most of them have movie adaptations. I wouldn’t say any of them disturbed me, though The Girl Next Door was a hard watch, and a tough read. Ketchum is always repulsive in the best way possible. McCarthy’s “The Road” seems out of place on a “most disturbing” list. If any of his works should be included, it’s Blood Meridian. That one had some genuinely disturbing moments, and I have no idea how they are going to translate it properly to the screen.

I have been meaning to read Blood Meridian actually, and am glad that recommended that first. I mean, not that I am TRYING to be disturbed, but I guess if you’re gonna go, go all out.

I haven’t read The Girl Next Door, but am wandering what it would be like after already seeing the visuals.
