Back in the game: I am buying Hollywood Zombies and Garbage Pail Kids

February 26th, 2009 by Price

Shit, I cannot believe I forgot about these things. By these things I mean Garbage Pail Kids. I am not sure what inspired me to search around on them (probably some weird deep-rooted childhood thing that I don’t even want to think about, but will probably come out in therapy sometime down the road), but I am glad I did. Because the universe has expanded.

Firstly, just to reflect, I recall my first couple of packs of Garbage Pail Kids as a child. I can’t remember if I bought them, or my parents got them for me (unaware of their gruesome nature), but I remember loving them. I remember Santa putting them in my stocking once, and it being the greatest present ever. Much cooler than that new bike. Probably a sign of things to come.

I remember playing with cousins, trading them around. I could not get enough of them. I’d have 5 of each, spread across the house in different sets. Never know when I’d have the urge to check them out.

People who had Garbage Pail Kids cards before I did were cool. This was a definite measure of coolness back in the day.

And the best part? The stickers of course. The stickers ruled all. These were all gold compared to the rest of the cards. You could never have enough of the stickers.

Then I came back to the 21st century, and found the website. My my, what a boatload of garbage (no pun intended). Lots of flashy galleries of cards, tools to create your own gpk, and mother fucking ecards too!

The only disappointing bit of the site was the message board. I thought I might find some intelligent conversation on the merits of the kids, their place in history, the stories of how people successfully hid them from their parents etc. Alas, it was nothing but spam from discount sneaker shops.

However, I think the gem discovery for me were the line of Hollywood Zombies cards:

Probably a little too cheesy for their own good, but whatever. The more zombies the better. I think that is supposed to be k-fed’s head. Not entirely sure.
