My Major Award! (part 2)
January 5th, 2009 by Vincent
Here it is! My Major Award! Let’s take a look at the wonders contained inside…
A blurry cameraphone photo! Sorry, I was too excited to lug this shit home and document it thoroughly, so you’re getting the “I’m at work, thus I’ll use my cameraphone to document things” version. As you can see from the first photo the bag is full of all kinds of shit. Some promotional, some not, some confusing, some simply useless. In the above picture you can see 1 Fangoria.tv t-shirt, 3 promotional postcards for Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors, 2 promotional postcards for Fangoria Radio, 2 small business-card-sized promotional cards for the Weekend of Horrors, 4 Fangoria balloons, 3 pins promoting a band called Witches in Bikinis, 4 lenticular flaming skull stickers and 1 Fangoria guitar pick. Fangoria somewhow got the idea that I would do their promotions for them. I guess they were correct since this article exists.
But wait! There’s more…
Here you can see my brand new, unwearable-to-all-with-eyes-or-self-respect Fangoria hat, 1 promotional business card for Witches in Bikinis (annoying), 1 cd (more on that later), and 2 holographic Starlog Magazine (wtf?) cards. I have no idea why the Starlog cards were included as I’ve never expressed interest in Star Trek or its “collectibles,” and this pack was clearly made with me in mind. I understand there’s almost certainly a venn diagram somewhere showing the percentage of horror fans who also enjoy Star Trek, but I’m not in the overlapping section and therefore am offended.
Here’s a closeup of the album of the year and the Witches in Bikinis pins. The album is by a band called Van Helsing’s Curse and is titled “Oculus Infernum,” which I believe translates to “Eye Fire.” Clearly serious stuff. A simple use of the google shows me that said band has a connection to Dee Snider, but I don’t care enough about them to research that at the moment.
The album sounds like ultra-synthed out new age Christmas music but with Halloween songs instead of Christmas Carols. It comes across like the demonic hell version of Manheim Steamroller. That’s pretty accurate. Each track is loaded with electric violin, phased out synthesizers and enough ambient noise to make Enya blush. There’s also some corny narration provided by Dee Snider, Damnation and a Day style, to help guide you along the way.
Finally, here’s a closeup of the guitar pick and lenticular stickers. They’re definitely my favorite items in the package and proof that good things happen to good people.
All in all I’m happy with this bag of crap I’ve received.
