4 Days Until Halloween, Time to Carve a Pumpkin

Monday, October 27th, 2008 by Vincent

I don’t carve no early pumpkins. I like to wait until the last week before Halloween to really get things into full-swing. It serves two purposes: one being that I don’t ruin the holiday and overdose on it weeks before the big day, and two being I don’t have to tolerate a rotting squash in my crib. Tonight was the night.

If you’re looking for a site to peruse or some comics to read on this Monday night before the mayhem begins, then check out Halloween Man. Fitting I know.

‘Vampire Killers’, a short-but-sweet web series

Sunday, October 26th, 2008 by Price

I have to admit, this is pretty cool. The concept of an evil (redundant) groups of vampire vixens who are plotting to wipe out mankind will always get my vote for a good plot.

Our heroes are a group of vampire killers in L.A. aiming to wipe out the ~500,000 vampires who are providing and ever increasing number of dead bodies. They are fighting a race of female vampires, who enjoy eating flesh and making out. YES.

To be honest, I haven’t really been able to get into any web shows, and I’ve only recently gotten into web comics. For someone who spends almost every waking moment in front of a computer, if I have the desire to watch a film or show, I do it in front of the TV.

However, I quickly ran through the 6 episodes in one sitting. They were very addicting, and for what limited budget the crew had, were exceptionally well filmed and visually appealing, beyond what I would have thought possible. The music is very haunting as well. Thumbs up.

Creator Doug Hutchison has created an interesting cast of characters, headlined by queen vampire Anesia Titov and the aforementioned vampire killers. The lore behind this particular brand of vampire and also the killers who chase them is available on the site, and I only hope that these episodes can continue, or perhaps make it into book or graphic novel form (for us literate folk).

The concept behind the show is quite intriguing as well, as the idea to is to have a grassroots Internet production company kept alive by viewer donations, which is pretty cool. Long live horror!

Take half an hour and watch these. It’s Halloween week after all.

Zombiecore: Send More Paramedics

Friday, October 24th, 2008 by Vincent

You wear zombie makeup and name your band after a quote from Return of the Living Dead, one of the best zombie movies of all time, and you’re 90% on the way to being my favorite band ever. You round it out with heavy music about zombie crews and anthropoghagi while screaming in Tom Araya’s voice and all signs point to Satan.

Send More Paramedics did all this and did it well. Sadly they’ve broken up, but the memories live on. This song is definitely not one of my favorites, but look at how much time they spent making their videos and then send them $5 for making your day a bit better.

Halloween Metal Part 8: Bloodbath

Friday, October 24th, 2008 by Price

I have always had a special place in my heart for Bloodbath. It’s been debated whether or not the band was ever truly a side project or has always been a fully-staffed and supported band. Either way, they have put out 3 brutal albums and 2 EPs, filled with gore and guts and death wishes.

Vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt (of Opeth fame) gives the band that push over the edge from mediocre run of the mill gore-core band to Incredible death metal that makes you wish you really were dead. They make being dead sound like a party.

The have a new album out along with the above pictured Wacken live CD. Listen to 3 new tracks off of their latest album on their MySpace page and then go hack off a coworker’s arm with an axe (or just imagine it). Or, watch them destroy Wacken ’08 while covered in gore themselves (gets rolling about 1:30 in):

Mr. Potato Head Halloween Edition: Trick or Tater

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008 by Price

I could not resist myself. I personally was not a big fan of the Star Wars or any other special edition Mr. Potato Head. Frankly, I never cared for Mr. or Mrs. Potato Heads that much since I never had one as a child. For some reason I always equated ownership of a Mr. Potato Head with prestige and power. But I digress.

As I usually do in Wal Mart, I buy anything and everything that I know I probably wouldn’t get a chance to buy when back in the city. Considering it is Halloween season, I fell easily for this thing.

Where the Slime Live

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008 by Vincent

This song makes me want to knock over the accursed file cabinet next to my desk. And It just feels right for the last 8 days of October. David Vincent’s latex pentagram t-shirt, however, is never right.

Note the 3 classic metalheads spinning their hair at the 1:30 mark.

Kill time at work, and kill some cartoon people at the same time.

Orchestrated Death, a great way to kill some time. Not recommended though for times when frustrated at work, as playing this will probably only make it worse.
