Halloween Metal Part 6: All Shall Perish

October 10th, 2008 by Price

All Shall Perish screams Halloween. Literally scream, obviously. I group these guys with Whitechapel and Suicide Silence as my 3 favorite Death Metal/Metalcore/Grindcore/Brutal Breakdown Metal/YouCrossTooManyStyles bands to which I compare any new potential band in that genre before adding them to permanent rotation in my music player. It’s just purely brutal and technically magnificent without having a lot of the cheese and over-emphasis on ridiculous technicality and mathematics that suffers a lot of death metal bands these days.

Their latest offering, Awaken the Dreamers, is not quite as raw as their first 2 albums, however what I like about this one is the individuality of each song on the album. They each tell their own story and differ in terms of how they oscillate from melodic to ferocious, and back again. It keeps you interested and beckons for a repeat play, which is very rare I feel in metal these days.

Back to the Halloween thing, I do not think I need to point out their apocalyptic and death-referencing name. They also have the imagery/logo that would fit well within the pages of any good horror-related graphic novel.

Give a listen to their latest album and let us know what you think. I am impressed.
