Jason Peter = Metal

October 4th, 2008 by Price

Saturday, Saturday, Saaaaturday!!!! IT’S MOTHER FUCKING SATURDAY.

I am in North Carolina this weekend to take in one of Devil’s Demons favorite non-horror traditions, college football. So once again, I taking a little tryst away from the Devil’s Demons standard, I am writing about a book. Now people, I am by no means attempting to get a job reviewing bestsellers for the NY Times. Hence I will keep this one short. Bottom line, if you are looking for an easy-reading and entertaining tale on a sportsman’s descent into a dark drug and sex-fueled escapade that nearly claimed his life and all he knew and cared for, then check out Jason Peter‘s memoir Hero of the Underground.

It’s a harrowing tale of an American football player who thought he was invincible (and quite frankly might be), pushing himself to physical and emotional limits unbeknownst to the professional athlete before. Think The Dirt minus the guitars and bad hair.

Jason’s just a bad motherfucker. I in no way condone his rampant drug abuse (the heroin and pill abuse was particularly incredible) and more importantly, his treatment of women. However, to read his words describing how he enjoying crushing offensive linemen’s skulls or liked to hear the sounds of bones breaking during a game. Well. That’s pretty badass.

One point I found particularly interesting was the bit on Jason’s pure hatred for former Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz. That guy gets on our nerves too.

If you’re particularly interested, check out a recent Q&A with Jason here.
