Halloween Metal: Part 2
September 13th, 2008 by PriceOK, so I’m really going to throw you a curveball right here. The band I am about to endorse is definitely not metal, but if you want to group a bunch of Halloweenish bands together, these guys must be included.
The are The Faint. They are dance-punk, new wave, faux metal. Not really metal all, at least in the sense that they are not normally included in the metal genre. But here at the Devil’s Demons, we have a broader definition for metal. If the music is Metal, it can make you do Metal things.
While determining the Faint’s position within Halloween Metal, I have to say that they hold themselves to the same standards as a lot of Halloween Metal bands do: they produce an addictive grove, have a killer live show, and just do things a bit weirder than their contemporaries do.
If I think hard enough, I can see this band onstage wandering around Dawn of the Dead like, mindlessly pressing synth keys, strumming their guitars, punching out rhythmic tunes that might be simple but have a mass effect, forcing the entire crowd to get down. It’s this zombie-esque mob activity that makes me truly appreciate that Faint.
It’s all about the mood.
